The Cleveland Browns coaching search — both their head coaching search and all others that have followed it — have been the very definition of a mess. After putting off hiring their dream coach long enough that the defensive coordinator Buffalo Bills was their best option, the Browns seem to be going back and forth on offensive coordinator candidates.

Earlier this week is was reported that Kyle Shanahan was in the running to land the offensive coordinator job, only to have it later reported that he was out of the mix. Now, according to Mary Kay Cabot from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Shanahan is back in and very much still in consideration for the job.

It’s easy to say that reporters just got their wires crossed earlier this week, but then you have to remember that this is the Browns we’re talking about. Despite boasting in a cocky manner that they know what they’re doing, it’s very clear that they don’t and the mixed signals about Shanahan are likely coming from within rather than from the beat writers.
