Kansas City Chiefs 'very excited about' WR AJ Jenkins

The Kansas City Chiefs made a trade with the San Francisco 49ers during the season to swap one disappointing wide receiver to another. The Chiefs shipped Jonathan Baldwin off to San Francisco, while the 49ers unloaded former first-round pick A.J. Jenkins to the Chiefs.

Jenkins, who is in his third year in the NFL, had some positive flashes after joining the Chiefs, and ESPN’s Louis Riddick said on NFL Insiders that Kansas City is “very excited about” the wide receiver entering the offseason.

With his speed and at just 24 years old, Jenkins is a very intriguing wide receiver prospect.

Kansas City is still expected to add some pass catchers in the offseason as they look to get more weapons for quarterback Alex Smith, but if Riddick is correct then there is a real chance that Jenkins could push for a starting spot opposite Dwayne Bowe in 2014.

I don’t see him getting a starting spot, especially if we sign some like Maclin this offseason. The new guy from the CFL looks to take McClusters WRing duties away and based off of the videos I’ve watched from the CFL guy he looks like a fast, reliable handed slot WR (sort of like a Wes Welker look). I think he will see more game time, but if the Chiefs sign a WR this offseason I think Jenkins will be like Hemmingway, only with more snaps per game.

If he could play at this level and contribute and the Chiefs know it…..wow. Solves huge problem at WR. Bowe scares me to death after last season, maybe he was hurt. Let’s hope Jenkins is an answer since his pay check is not petty cash.

Isn’t all of this last year on his contract guaranteed? Of course, KC is excited. They have to keep him, so they might as well pump his ego and hope for the best.
