The Miami Heat were one of the first teams to be rumored as being interested in the services of Andrew Bynum. As soon as the Chicago Bulls cut him loose, the Heat were attached to Bynum but the team never signed him before the Indiana Pacers scooped him up.

Miami did meet with Bynum though, as Marc J. Spears points out the Heat made contact with Bynum just before he signed with the Pacers on Saturday.

"Miami had discussions with Bynum before he signed with Indiana, a source said. It would have been odd for the Heat to have Bynum and Greg Oden."

It’s understandable why fans would have wanted to see Bynum in Miami, but the team wasn’t willing to pay above the minimum for a guy that wouldn’t even be guaranteed minutes in the postseason. The Heat joined the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers as teams that made contact with Bynum before he signed on Saturday, but the notion of the Heat signing Bynum always seemed to be a silly one.
