The Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly open to trading Pau Gasol to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the price was deemed to be too high as the Lakers allegedly asked for young players and/or draft picks in the potential trade.

Fast forward a few weeks and the Lakers are back in the news, this time reportedly having trade discussions with the Phoenix Suns in regards to Gasol.

Understandably, the Lakers want youth and draft picks in exchange for Gasol but Susan Bible of Basketball Insiders believes Los Angeles is simply asking too much for their power forward:

"Yes, they do look bad. I think the Lakers will make some trade deadline rumblings. I’m not sure who they are targeting exactly, but I hear they want a power forward…an athletic one, at that. I think Gasol stays – they want too much in exchange in their rebuilding efforts."

Some reports have suggested the Lakers would like to keep Gasol and attempt to re-sign him on the cheap at the end of the season. Other reports have hinted the Lakers are calling nearly every team in the league attempting to get a trade done, so it’s difficult to find a middle ground in regards to the Gasol rumors.

One thing is for sure though – we’ll have an answer to the drama in a couple weeks come the NBA trade deadline.
