Wyoming Cowboys quarterback Brett Smith looked like a signal-caller who had plenty of potential, but still needed time to fine tune his skills at the collegiate level. However, Smith seemed to believe he was ready to make the jump to the NFL and became an early declaration for the 2014 NFL Draft.

As a junior, Smith could have returned to Wyoming for one more season, but he chose otherwise and it looks like that was a mistake.

According to reports, Smith has not been invited to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis later this month, which is troubling news for his draft stock. Murphy McGuire of Inside the League passed along the news and stated his shock:

While Smith is a mobile quarterback that can make plays on the run, it looks like teams are not thrilled with what they have seen on tape.

Of course, Smith could always find success even without a combine invitation, but it is going to be much harder to convince teams you are worth a selection if you are unable to work out for them on the big stage.

Smith is finding it increasingly difficult to be drafted.
