In recent days, there has been what seems like a daily saga surrounding the availability of Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors. The big man from Georgia Tech has missed 3 of the past 5 games with hip trouble, and now, his status for Monday night’s home against the Toronto Raptors is very much in doubt.

The official release from the club lists Favors as “doubtful” for the game, further shedding light on any speculation that his hip injury is really bothering him. In the two games that Favors has actually appeared in, he shot just 40% from the field, but did manage to post double-doubles. However, his game is based a lot on explosive athleticism, and without that burst, Favors changes from a potential game-changer to just “another guy”.

Utah has been much better recently, having posted a very respectable 15-17 record since their disastrous 1-14 start to the season. Still, the Jazz are void of the type of talented depth that any contending team in the West would have, and without Favors in the lineup, their roster looks even more bleak. Stay tuned for updates, but we can safely assume that Favors won’t be making his return on Monday night.
