Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson is one of the most talented defensive backs in the league and he is hoping that he can soon be paid like one.

Peterson is entering the final year of his rookie deal if the Cardinals don’t trigger the fifth-year team option, so he is now eligible for a contract extension. After recently switching agents, Peterson is hoping that extension will come and he is not ruling out a holdout to make sure a deal gets done.

“I can’t speak on that right now,” Peterson told Pro Football Talk on NBCSN when asked if he would consider a holdout.

“Me and my agent, we haven’t talked about some of those possibilities.  But hopefully we can get something done.  If something were to happen, we restructure my deal or anything like that, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

The Cardinals have plenty of cap space so they can definitely work out a deal, but they also hold all of the cards and could choose to wait and allow everything to play itself out. Of course, Peterson would rather be paid sooner rather than later.
