During Super Bowl XLVIII, NFL legend Joe Namath rocked a fantastic fur coat that left social media buzzing. Unfortunately for Namath, the fur coat also caught the attention of the folks from PETA, who released a statement ripping the former quarterback for the “embarrassing” choice of outerwear.

“The real embarrassment on Sunday was Joe Namath’s caveperson coat,” PETA said in the statement.

“No matter what he spent on that eyesore, the animals who were trapped, bludgeoned, electrocuted, or skinned alive for their fur paid a lot more—the ultimate price, in fact—and viewers across the country agree that it was too high a price, as demonstrated by the outpouring of anti-fur messages that hit Twitter the second that Namath’s coat hit the screen.

“PETA is asking Joe, who swore off fur when his wolf-skin bedspread horrified his fans decades ago, to donate the coat so that we can give it a proper burial.”

Hey, PETA, you have to stay warm.

The only embarrassing moment to come from Namath’s coat is the fact that PETA is asking for the coat to give it a “proper burial.”

Hopefully Namath keeps the pimp coat alive and wears it out to every public appearance moving forward.
