Coke to air longer version of multilingual Super Bowl ad
By Stu White
If you were one of the (incredibly dumb) people furious about the multilingual “America the Beautiful” ad that aired during the Super Bowl, you probably don’t want to watch the opening ceremony for the Sochi Olympics on NBC tonight.
As ABC News reported earlier, Coca-Cola, the makers of the “controversial” ad, will be running a longer version of the ad during tonight’s broadcast.
(My god, that means an extra 30 seconds of Americans not speaking ‘Murican! The horror! The horror! What has this great country come to?)
The soda giant released a statement Thursday about the ad:
"‘It’s Beautiful’ provides a snapshot of the real lives of Americans representing diverse ethnicities, religions, races and families, all found in the United States. All those featured in the ad are Americans and ‘America the Beautiful’ was sung by bilingual American young women."
The opening ceremony for the Sochi Olympics will air on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Maybe you can use the time before the broadcast to brush up on a second language? Just a thought.
