If Jairus Byrd walks in free agency, it’s not because the Buffalo Bills didn’t try.

That’s the news according to Chris Brown who says Buffalo will make every effort to re-sign the franchise safety.

"That being said I do believe they will make every effort to re-sign Jairus Byrd to a long term contract extension."

Byrd is expected to be the top free agent safety on the market and is looking to be paid like it. He and Buffalo were unable to come to terms on a deal this past offseason nor were they able to iron out things during the regular season. Add in that Byrd’s agent, Eugune Parker, is known to be hard headed as they come, we could be in for a real brouhaha.

The 27-year-old is going to cash in, be it with the Bills or not and will likely come home with the biggest contract ever given to a safety in NFL history. Do the Bills make such an excessive offer? I guess we’ll see in the coming weeks.
