The NBA trade deadline is approaching rapidly and that has teams starting to get on the phones more and more in order to make a trade that gets them through the second half of the season. For the New York Knicks, making a trade not only means staying competitive but the primary reason seems to be convincing Carmelo Anthony to stay with the team next year.

Rumors have been swirling that Melo wants out of New York, but Basketball Insiders’ Bill Ingram weeds through the statements about Melo wanting to leave and points out that he wants to win in New York and that has management trying to make a trade to land a star this season.

"Second, we have the New York Knicks working the phones in an attempt to add another star-caliber player alongside Carmelo Anthony. As much as the media loves to talk about the Knicks dealing Anthony himself, that just isn’t very likely to happen. Anthony wanted to be in New York, which is why the Nuggets worked to send him there in the first place, and his feelings about that haven’t changed."

Rajon Rondo has been mentioned a lot in rumors involving the Knicks and landing him would be huge for the team. A lot needs to happen before that trade is made but it appears the Knicks are going to be buyers at the deadline if for nothing else than keeping Melo happy.
