Muhammad Wilkerson is one of the best defenders on the New York Jets roster, which means he is underpaid for a player of his caliber as he plays out his rookie deal. With his level of success on the field, it is only natural for Wilkerson to be looking for a pay raise, but don’t expect him to hold out to send a message.

“It will be taken care of, definitely,” Wilkerson said, via Metro New York.

“But all that holdout and all that other talk that people were saying and everything — I never said anything like that. I’m not going to hold out. It’s not something I want; it’s not something I’m thinking about. I’m going to show up like everybody else and do what I’m told.”

That is the attitude that you want to see from your players and it is also the perfect way to stay in the good graces of your bosses.

If Wilkerson wants to get a pay raise and earn a long-term contract extension, the best way to do that is to do your speaking on the field.
