Has Brandon Spikes played his last game as a member of the New England Patriots? It certainly seems that way.

The Patriots are looking for ways to cut cash for free agency and signing the talented Spikes isn’t exactly the way to do that. Thus, it’s the belief of the Boston Herald who feels the Patriots will not re-sign linebacker Brandon Spikes, allowing him to become a free agent.

"Spikes’ days with the Patriots appear to be over. The leak of the late meeting was proof that someone wants him gone, and his greatest ally in Pepper Johnson is out. Spikes and Dont’a Hightower even exchanged helmets the day after the season ended. All parties saw the writing on the wall."

New England has talent that will be able to step in and replace Spikes, who while very effective against the run, struggles against the pass.

There simply isn’t any need for the Patriots to commit $6 to $7 million dollars annually for a one-way player when the money could be spent better elsewhere.
