NBA Rumors: Celtics will trade Rajon Rondo in ‘irresistible’ deal

The New York Knicks remain convinced the Boston Celtics will trade point guard Rajon Rondo.

That may be true, assuming the Celtics get a deal that’s simply too good to be true. Outside of that, there’s little chance the Celtics make such a move, this according to CSNNE.com.

NBA insider A. Sherrod Blakely told CSNNE that Boston would only trade Rajon Rondo in an ‘irresistible’ deal:

“It’s going to have to be a Brooklyn Nets-type of deal, one that is just too irresistible to pass up,” Blakely said. “It’s going to have to be better than that deal. It’s going to have to include some type of young, talented up-and-coming player, probably is going to have to involve multiple first round picks, they’re probably going to have to be unprotected, it has to be one of those deals that Danny Ainge looks at and says, ‘There’s no way I can turn this deal down.’”

With Rondo still under contract through next season, Boston doesn’t need to be in a rush to make a move. Of course, history shows the Celtics (under Danny Ainge) tend to wait until the final hours of the NBA’s trade deadline so nobody is really safe until that final second ticks down.

I’m sure the Knicks would want him but has there ever been any confirmation that they are attempting to get him. Seems to be all speculation. The Knicks have to know they do not have nearly enough to pry him loose via a trade. Really, what do they have to offer?

Exactly, nothing. In typical NY fashion, they have blown through their salary cap, draft picks, just about everything…..and they still aren’t any good. Only in NY, where all fair-weather fans are born.

One BIG problem: The Knicks do NOT have the pieces to pull off that type of deal! The ONLY way the Knicks pull it off is by trading Anthony to a willing 3rd party team, which allows the Knicks to land RR and the C’s to benefit from the resources of the of that 3rd club… But why would the Knicks need RR if they’re giving up Melo???

Rajon Rondo is not a franchise player therefore there will not be an irresistible deal for him unless Isaiah Thomas were running a franchise. He is a terrible shooter for a guard and his effectiveness came from his athleticism which who knows how it will hold up in the long run with an ACL injury. On top of that, he benefited greatly when KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen were his teammates. I don’t think you will see similar impact if his teammates are Iman Shumpert, Carmelo, Tyson and Amare or similar mid level rosters. The knicks would be better off clearing cap and acquiring as man picks as possible and building through the draft. If Isaiah Thomas had done that by now they would be reaping the benefits by fielding a team that would be young, athletic and if constructed right competing for a championship. Easy fixes and trades don’t work unless you strike gold in acquiring a Pau Gasol, KG or someone like that for pennies on the dollar. There is no other way to do it.

I agree, after this injury, look to Rose & Kobe to see how messed up he will be.

Terrible shooter for a guard… He had the best mid range shooting % of any guard before he got hurt last year. In 10 games this year he’s already made more 3 pointers than in 2 of the last 3 years, and is 1 3 pointer away from matching the total from the third year. It’s an incredibly small sample size, but he’s shooting his best 3pt % of his career. He’s been close to a triple double in 3 of his last 4 games, and if you’ve been watching any of their games (your comment suggests you haven’t, which is understandable, they can be hard to watch lol), you’d see that he’s been playing better and better each game. You could be right that wouldn’t take an irresistible deal for Ainge to trade Rondo though. Ainge could easily be saying that to boost his value.

rondo stinks, can’t shoot a lick, and now will be suspect to the injury bug. he almost has to be on an all star team to be productive. the celts should take what ever they can get for him., he’s damaged goods
