Boston Red Sox left fielder Jonny Gomes is among many Major League Baseball players who have started growing massive beards throughout the season.  But unlike most players that happily go back to the clean-shavin look when the season ends, Gomes has continued to wear his much buzzed about beard throughout the off-season.

Until now.

Gomes will take it all off before spring training begins later this month, but first he’s testing a few new looks with the NEWPhilips Norelco BeardTrimmer.

“My motto is ‘turn the page’ and that starts with my facial hairstyle, especially when the beards of my teammates and I were such a focal point the past year,” says Gomes. “But first, I wanted to get a little crazy with my beard before shaving it all off.”

Before we all start thinking this is just a publicity stunt or product endorsement, there is a philanthropic element.

Gomes is a supporter of the Travis Roy Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the life of spinal cord injury victims. That being the case, Philips Norelco is giving a $10,000 donation to the Travis Roy Foundation to kickstart Jonny’s goal of purchasing several race chairs for disabled participants for upcoming Boston Marathons.
