The New Orleans Saints are in a bit of a salary cap crunch as they search under couch cushions and behind the fridge for change to give Jimmy Graham this offseason. As a result, the team is slicing cap space to fit Graham under and casualties are starting to pile up.

According to Roman Harper’s official twitter account, the long time Saint has become he first major salary cap casualty of the offseason.

A while back it looked like Harper was going to be cut, but no Saints fans wanted to believe it as truth. Harper’s career in New Orleans is one that will ensure he’s forever remembered by fans. He was an instrumental part of the 2009 defense that won a Super Bowl and his interception of Peyton Manning in that game will forever be an immortal Super Bowl play.

He’ll find work again, as there seems to be interest from the Chicago Bears and a good veteran safety is always hard to find in the NFL, especially one with Harper’s type of leadership and experience. For now though, Harper will lick his wounds and look back one last time on the place he’s called home for the last eight seasons.
