Less than a year after winning a playoff series, Carmelo Anthony’s New York Knicks are the most disappointing in the league and look like they could miss the postseason.
With Anthony able to become a free agent next year, this is a very dangerous time to struggle, especially with the Knicks’ cap situation.
On Friday afternoon, Anthony appeared on ESPN’s Sports Center to discuss his future.
Anthony all but told ESPN he would be opting out.
Melo on Sportscenter: "I want to win a championship. If I have to become a free agent in order to do that, then that's what I have to do."

Now, to be fair, he should opt out, keep his options open and sign a longer contract if he chooses to stay in New York. He also believes he can recruit other players.
Melo also did say that he felt he could help attract other free agents to NY by becoming a free agent...

Anthony went on to say money is no issue.
Melo also intimated that money wouldn't be the most important factor: "I've made plenty of money, enough that I could retire right now..."

The money aspect could be a sign that Anthony could sign elsewhere for slightly less in order to win, like LeBron James did with the Miami Heat or he could simply be willing to stay with the Knicks for less money.
Anthony is having another big season, averaging 27.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
