NBA Rumors: Miami Heat looking to sign Chris Kaman, Charlie Villanueva

The NBA trade deadline is approaching fast, which means teams are starting to hammer out strategies to adding players that can help in the postseason or dumping salary to free up cap space for the summer. The Miami Heat are sort of in both categories as they want to avoid the luxury tax as much as possible but are looking to add players to their roster.

According to Ira Winderman of the Orlando Sentinel, the Heat may look t the march 1st waiver deadline more than they’re looking at the February 20th trade deadline when it comes to adding key pieces for the postseason.

March 1st is the last date a player can be signed and be eligible for the postseason, which means the waiver wire will be filling up with players. The Heat added Chris Anderson at the deadline last year and he proved instrumental in bringing another title to South Beach.

Winderman speculates that the Heat will look at potential buyout candidates in Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Caron Butler and Chris Kaman.

Of course, these players have to be waived before they’re considered by the Heat, but it’s clear they want to add more pieces this year but just may not do so through a trade.

Why should we let the Heat have Kaman? I would keep him just to keep them from getting him if for no other reason. Of course, this rumor is probably like all the other rumors we’ve been reading lately.

Heat would love Kamen…Lakers looking to avoid luxury taxes and improving their draft stock to try and get the #1 pick this year..trading Kamen makes since. outside of the last 5 games in which he was very productive he stayed on the bench and in Dantoni dog house. He can come to a championship ready that could use a skilled big man. He could start backed up by Oden…move Bosh to the 4 backed up by Birdman…..

The Heat might love Kamen, but why should we improve their situation? Everyone says it’s more likely that Gasol will be traded because of his large salary. Kaman is making less than a fifth of what Gasol is making. If they trade Gasol there will be room in the lineup for Kaman. And what does Miami have that would help the Lakers? I can’t imagine that they have a lot of good draft picks available.

Kamen and Caron Butler would be perfect addition and tony douglass/roger mason could get cut. In my mind if Miami is able to add both its 3peat in Miami….Lamar Odom is a dark horse former Heat player….6’11 solid passer and rebounder if he goes to spain like planned and plays well he could get picked up to add front court depth.

Don’t ever put the Miami Heat and Lamar Odom in the same sentence…

  • Real M-Fing talk !!!

Charlie V. is a better fit with Miami than Granger or Butler based on the way he plays and the added length, now Add a Kaman to the mix (which i doubt) and they will finally have a solid inside out game. Too often people judge players based on their individual talent, forgetting it’s who surrounds them, Charlie V. on Detroit is worthless but on the Heat a different story, he is not asked to do too much just enough. Riley needs to stop hoping and looking… and get something done by March 1 to 3peat.
