The arrest of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice over the weekend has cast a cloud over the start of the Ravens offseason. While the team is looking at ways to improve the roster, Rice being arrested has caused some to wonder if there will be any consequences in terms of his status with the team.
General manager Ozzie Newsome addressed the issue of Rice’s arrest and stated that he still sees the running back in the Ravens immediate plans for the future.
Neither general manager Ozzie Newsome nor coach John Harbaugh have talked to Rice but one will likely do so over the next day.
“When I left my office 20 minutes and John been in there 15 minutes before then, Ray Rice was still a big part of what we plan to do in 2014,” Newsome said Monday.
It’s still too early on in the process to even think about football, but that’s what Newsome is paid to do. While he noted that right now Rice is a part of the Ravens’ future, Newsome did make sure to mention that further decisions will be made down the line as new information becomes available to them.
