The PGA Tour gets a jump on college hoops with its edition of “March Madness” this week at Dove Mountain where the top 64 players in the world compete in the Accenture Match Play Championship.  The NCAA tournament has nothing on this 64-man tournament as far as upsets go, and picking a perfect bracket is incredibly challenging, but it is so fun to try.

The setting for this unpredictable week is the par-72 Golf Club at Dove Mountain just outside of Tuscon, Arizona.  Last year, there was actually snow involved in the tournament and ultimately Matt Kuchar held off defending champion Hunter Mahan to take the title on Sunday.  The format is fairly simple with players going head-to-head in a bracket style match play round which goes extra holes in the event of a tie at the end of regulation.

The rules aren’t hard to understand, but predicting what will happen is never easy and no seed is safe as even top-seeded players regularly go down in the first round.  This year’s tournament could be even more wide open than usual since three of the four projected top seeds choose not to play.  There won’t be any Tiger sightings this year in the desert, and Phil and Adam Scott are also forgoing the event.  Don’t worry, there are still plenty of big names to fall.

If you want to take a shot at picking the tournament, the PGA Tour has a fantasy game set up where you fill out your bracket just like you will in about a month for College Basketball. To sign up for a team, click here to create your account.
