The NBA trade deadline is approaching fast, which means that teams are starting to hammer out strategies that will land them where they want to be after the deadline. For the New Orleans Pelicans, 2014 has proved to be yet another year of learning, but that hasn’t stopped the team from being involved in trade rumors or even directly involved in trade talks.

After hearing reports that they were active in the market already, the New Orleans Pelicans are seemingly pulling a couple guys off the block. Head coach Monty Williams noted to John Reid of The Times Picayune that the team will not be trading Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans — to the best of his knowledge.

"Pelicans coach Monty Williams said after Monday’s practice that he expects for both players to still be with the team after the trade deadline passes.“As far as I know, those guys are going to be here.”"

Gordon has been rumored to be going to the Milwaukee Bucks, among other teams, while Evans’ name has come up more and more recently in rumors. It’s hard to say just how involved the front office is making Monty Williams, but if he’s saying they’re not going to be traded, there has to be some value to that.
