Vikings trade back plans may involve Sammy Watkins

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he’d love to trade back from the No. 8 pick in the draft, assuming the right deal is presented. For this scenario to pan out, the right player must also still be available after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pick at No. 7.

This player may be wide receiver Sammy Watkins and the Vikings could be targeting teams in need of a wide receiver as draft day dance partners.

Some mock drafts have the the Bills at No. 9, the Rams at No. 13, the Steelers at No. 15, the Jets at No. 18, the Chiefs at No. 23, the Panthers at No. 28 and the Broncos at No. 31 all addressing the wide receiver position in the first round of the draft.

If Watkins falls to the No 8 spot a couple of those teams may consider a trade, especially if they fear the Bills would take him at No. 9. Depending on which way the Rams and the Steelers go, the Jets, Chiefs and Panthers may be the teams most likely looking to trade up. All three have solid defenses but need some serious upgrades on offense.

As much as I would love for the Chiefs to get Watkins, its a pipe dream.

The notion that Watkins might be available at #8 isn’t merely a bowl full of hash, it’s more like a handful of mushrooms, with an LSD chaser. The colors, man, the colors!

I think we need defense players instead of giving away draft value away for another off weapon. If our d can’t stop anyone the postseason game against the colts could be a reoccurring nightmare.. I think this would be to far fetched

I’m pretty sure Watkins will be there at 8 …if I’m minn if there’s no trade back it’s best player avail?.. If that’s Watkins there u take him if not best defensive player avail …I hope for a trade back we can grab a QB in the second of third

We need to get Jordan Mathews. He is going to be the best receiver in this class hands down. Trade flowers for a second round. He makes to much money to be a nickel back. Sign Schwartz back. Offense will be set: Smith, Charles, Bowe, Jordan, Kelce, Fasano, and we still have Hemingway and Jenkins. If that’s not enough offense for the CHIEFS we could always go after Rice or Nicks. Usethe rest of the draft picks to sure up our secondary, add depth at linebacker and defensive line and we will kick donkey butt for the next foreseeable future. Oh yeah you could add superbowl champions a couple times or so with this team also. GO CHIEFS !!!!!!

Yep. They love the guy and are not fond of any of the top 3 quarterbacks. They are looking for QB value in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. At minimum, Watkins will go to the Raiders or the Buccaneers before he reaches the 8th pick.
