The NFL took a zero policy stance on the Richie Incognito scandal, but they’re taking their time with the case involving the alleged assault of Ray Rice’s fiancee at the hands of Ray Rice. While not yet convicted of anything, the evidence against the Ravens running back is mounting quickly and the league is preparing for a negative outcome.

Should it be proven that Rice indeed laid a hand on his fiancée, Peter King reports that Rice will likely face some sort of league discipline for the assault. The fact that it’s only ‘likely’ and not definite that punishment would come from assaulting a woman is a story in of itself.

Per King:

"And regardless of the circumstances, if Rice did lay a hand on Palmer, he’ll be branded an abuser and likely face league or team discipline because of it. And rightfully so."

It’s possible, as King points out, that Rice was defending himself if he indeed struck his fiancée, but that’s a hard story to sell. Rice isn’t al rage man, but he’s a strong man and King isn’t wrong in stating that regardless of the circumstances, Rice will be labeled an abuser.

The Ravens seem to be defending him, but the league may not be so kind in the end.
