There were some questions as to what the New Orleans Saints would do in regards to free agent tight end Jimmy Graham, but it appears we have a solution.

Or at least, part of one.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Saints will use their franchise tag on Jimmy Graham.

"No great surprise, but the Saints will use their franchise tag on tight end Jimmy Graham before Monday’s deadline, per a league source."

Of course, using the franchise tag was always the assumed situation – it’s how Graham will be franchised, as a wide receiver or tight end, that looms as the question.

Schefter didn’t elaborate on the tag so we don’t know how the Saints will move forward, though the organization has always maintained that he is a tight end and that would be a reasonable expectation in regards to the tagging.

Graham meanwhile has suggested he’s used in more of a wide receiver role and wanted to be franchised as one. The difference is nearly $5 million dollars, so who can blame him?
