In two moves that were expected by the Seahawks, they have cut WR Sidney Rice and DL Red Bryant.

The Seahawks have an interesting cap situation because General Manager John Schneider will need to pay his young stars like Russell WilsonEarl Thomas, and Richard Sherman over the next year or so. The contracts for those guys will be near the highest at their respective positions.

Bryant, a 2008 draft pick had 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season while playing in Seattle’s defensive line rotation. Rice had 15 receptions, 231 yards, and  3 TDs in an injury filled 7th year in the league.

The big thing here is that Seattle saves $7.3 million on the cap by cutting Sidney Rice and $5.5 million by letting go of Red Bryant. Bringing the total savings to$12.8 million.
