2014 franchise tag numbers set
By Mike Dyce
The deadline to place the franchise tag on a player is approaching and now we have the figures for the franchise tag at each position. Keep in mind that three franchise tags have already been placed. The Carolina Panthers slapped defensive end Greg Hardy with the tag. The New York Jets tagged kicker Nick Folk and the New Orleans Saints will tag tight end Jimmy Graham.
The Graham situation is interesting because technically he is a tight end and would be eligible for $7.035 million, but he is expected to appeal and fight for the wide receiver label which would net him $12.312 million.
According to Albert Breer of NFL Network, the franchise tags by position are as follows:
Quarterback: $16.912 million
Running back: $9.54 million
Receiver: $12.312 million
Tight end: $7.035 million
Offensive line: $11.654 million
Defensive end: $13.116 million
Defensive tackle: $9.654 million
Linebacker: $11.455 million
Cornerback: $11.834 million
Safety: $8.433 million
Kicker/punter: $3.556 million
The deadline for applying the franchise tag expires on Monday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
