NFL Rumors: Jacksonville Jaguars to pursue Brian Orakpo, Alex Mack in free agency
By Josh Hill
The Jacksonville Jaguars weren’t the worst team in the NFL last year, but they looked to be most of the year. Besides earning some pride back late in the season, the Jaguars won their way out of the No. 1 pick, but they still plan on using al outlets to get better this offseason.
Before the draft even rolls around, free agency is set to open and the Jaguars could be major players. According to Michael DiRocco from ESPN.com, both Brian Orakpo and Alex Mack could be on the Jaguars radar when free agency opens this month.
"With the cap figure continuing to go up for next season the Jaguars obviously have more room available — about $55.5 million, as I wrote earlier. That means GM David Caldwell may be more likely to get involved with a guy like center Alex Mack or linebacker Brian Orakpo. Mack is the more likely of the two because the team can address the pass rush in the draft and with other, cheaper options in free agency. Mack is clearly the best center available and that’s a huge need for the Jaguars."
They’re not a lock to sign either, but the Jaguars have cap space and that could end up being more powerful than people think when it comes to signing big time free agent talent.
