As the Washington Redskins prepare for the start of NFL free agency, they released five total players on Tuesday afternoon to begin clearing cap space.

The biggest name to get the ax was defensive lineman Adam Carriker, which does not come as a surprise.

By releasing Carriker, the Redskins clear $2.989 million against the cap. He has missed the last 30 games due to multiple hamstring injuries and surgeries.

Carriker has said that he fully expects to be 100 percent in time for training camp, but he is not yet fully healthy. In order to catch on with a new team, Carriker will need to convince any potential suitors that he is healthy enough to contribute on the field.

The Redskins have also released punter Sav Rocca,  running back Jawan Jamison, running back Davin Meggett and tight end Richard Quinn.
