The Green Bay Packers don’t always spend a lot of cash but when they do it’s usually to retain a major piece of their roster. Aaron Rodgers was never ever going to even get close enough tot he free agent pool to smell the chlorine, but the same hasn’t been said about Pro Bowl defensive tackle B.J. Raji.
Many have been already looking at teams that could make a run at Raji if he hits the open market, but the Packers seem to be making a move that would end those talks in a heartbeat.
Packers and B.J. Raji are close to completing a 1-year deal that will keep the DT in Green Bay and off the free-agent market, per sources.

Re-signing a major piece of their defense is huge, as Raji is a homegrown beast and hasn’t played for anyone other than the Packers. Green Bay is looking to make sure that stays the case for at least another year, but a one-year deal would mean all of this happens again next year when the Packers may have less cash to give Raji a long-term deal.
