Minnesota Vikings’ defensive end Jared Allen has been one of the league’s elite pass rushers and once he hits the free agent market, he should have plenty of suitors lining up to talk to Allen and bring him in for visits in an attempt to woo the 11-year veteran out of Idaho State.
The Vikings have not ruled out bringing Allen back, but the Vikings and Allen aren’t sure how they will mesh in the new defensive scheme set by new head coach Mike Zimmer.
“He’s the one that would have to decide that he wants to come back and fit into what we do and how we do it,” Zimmer told Ben Goessling of ESPN.com. “He has to decide how much money that needs to be due for him to buy into doing that. And we’re the ones that have to decide how much we want to pay him for that, too.”
Zimmer has had a lot of success as defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals and he may not ask Allen to primarily be a pass rusher like he has in the past.
Allen had 52 tackles and 11.5 sacks last season.
