Cowboys thinking about moving MLB Sean Lee to weak-side linebacker?

The Dallas Cowboys are going to be spending a lot of time looking at how to fix their defense this offseason. Unfortunately the problem is complicated with personnel moves they’d rather not make, like potentially cutting defensive end DeMarcus Ware.

One Twitter user asked Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys’ official website if there was a chance middle linebacker Sean Lee to weak-side linebacker and put DeVonte Holloman in the middle. Broaddus said it is a possibility and “are thoughts.”

Lee is very athletic and the Cowboys’ best coverage linebacker so the move would make sense to a certain degree. Of course the Cowboys defense has so many holes this wouldn’t be a fix-all shift, but it could be a beneficial one and they’ll take whatever they can get at this point.

If they want this kid to survive, Jones and his brain trust need to move him somewhere other than right in the middle. His body can’t take the punishment much longer. Nobody questions Lee’s heart. The defense plays better when he’s on the field. But that’s the problem. He’s just too small, body-wise, to hold up the middle for an entire season. And his numerous injuries are beginning to catch up with him.

From a player’s perspective, Holloman is very nearly a performance clone of Lee. And his star is rising with the coaches because he’s a fearless hitter. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s one of those guys that seems to be magnetically attracted to where the ball is on every play.

Yea that right and Holman i think might be something if they play him

that’s the problem with dallas, they never turn their draft picks loose. 57 should have been on the field a lot more than he was last year. he had an outstanding preseason but then we never saw him again, only on ST’s, then the injury and we hardly got to use him or let him gain exp. this would be a good move 50, 57, and 54, maybe 51 in place of 54.

Yea I know makes no sense

57 was injured a majority of last year but I agree with your point. We wait entirely to long to see what our young players have to offer.

I think there’s a possibility that Carter could perform well at MIKE in this scheme. After all, that is the closest position to the one that he excelled in while in Rob Ryan’s defense. If Lee could make a better conversion to Weakside than Carter, we could easily be getting the most bang possible out of this Linebacking Core. This will also allow Holloman to either compete at strongside or back up the MIKE position.

Got to keep Lee on the field some how. That said, putting him on one side limits his excellent talent to one side and not the whole field. Also the Tampa 2 has the MLB covering the deep middle and Carter just can’t handle that. Really shouldn’t have a LB covering deep.
