Early Saturday morning, news leaked suggesting the Philadelphia Eagles were interested in free agent defensive end Michael Johnson.

It was a match that made sense, but according to insider Tim McManus, the Eagles will not be signing Johnson. McManus reports that talks became serious between Johnson and multiple teams, but Philadelphia was not one of them.

"Michael Johnson to Philly isn’t happening. A few teams in the mix as negotiations get heavy, Eagles not amongst them."

Reaction to the news from Eagles fans on Twitter was mixed. Some expressing obvious disappointment that the Eagles won’t be signing one of the premier free agents on the open market while some expressed happiness the team wouldn’t overspend for Johnson, who is sure to cash in.

McManus did not elaborate on the teams currently talking to Johnson, though, it’s been heavily reported that the Minnesota Vikings are among the most interested suitors as they’re losing Jared Allen.

Minnesota would also reunite Johnson with former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who took the Vikings head coaching job earlier this offseason.
