NFL Rumors: Pat McAfee wants to kick field goals for the Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts got a huge boost this past week when they signed the ever popular man on social media, punter Pat McAfee, to a new five-year deal before the Free Agency period hit. Generally, when you have someone sign a comfortable deal like that, you would think that they would be content with their current duties. But no, not McAfee, as he apparently wants to add to his workload by becoming the team’s field goal kicker, should Adam Vinatieri depart after this season.

“It was definitely brought up and that was kind of the thing I think that was most talked about,” McAfee said, in comments distributed by the team. “Who knows what’s going to happen with Vinatieri? If he gets re-signed, if he wants to get re-signed, however long he wants to play, I just wanted to know whenever that guy is done, whenever that Hall-of-Fame career is over, that I just want a fair shake in kicking as well. That came up in the conversation. Who knows what’s going to happen with everything else obviously with him or who else they bring in. That definitely came up during negotiations and I’m excited to see how that turns out as well.”

At West Virginia, McAfee pulled field goal duties for the team, so he’s proven that he can handle the responsibility.
