In a move that has surprised many around the NFL, the St. Louis Rams have gotten an day jump on the Jairus Byrd sweepstakes and reached out to the free agent safety on the first day of free agency tampering. The former Bills safety is one of the most coveted free agents on the market and the Rams weren’t initially mentioned anywhere near him.

They will be now though, at least according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

St. Louis is in a make or break year across the board, as Jeff Fisher, Sam Bradford and other are getting their backs pushed up against the wall. Fisher apparently is looking to make a splash on defense — a unit that was actually a saving grace of sorts in 2013.

Adding Byrd would be a massive signing for the Rams, but the only question is would they have to break the bank to get him and would that be worth it?
