NFL Free Agent Rumors: Alterraun Verner says Patriots 'possibility'

There’s no doubt that Alterraun Verner wants to sign with a contender, it’s just a matter of who.

It appears the defensive back is casting a wide net and hitting just about any team with cap space and/or Super Bowl dreams with his latest target being the New England Patriots.

Verner, appearing on a radio show, suggested signing with the Patriots is ‘definitely a possibility‘.

@FieldYates: Top FA CB Alterraun Verner tells @MadDogRadio the Patriots are “definitely a possibility.” McCourty “lobbying” for it.

Of course, the Patriots aren’t likely to pay both Verner and Aquib Talib, so it’s likely one of the other and one would assume the Patriots would likely prefer Talib given they know what they’re getting.

Still, Verner would be one hell of a consolation prize for New England if they couldn’t retain Talib and would lessen (if not remove) the blow of losing Talib.

For now though, the Patriots are just one of many teams rumored to be on his target list.
