The San Diego Chargers added depth at the running back position Tuesday night, signing former Indianapolis Colt Donald Brown.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com first reported the deal.

Pro Football Talk provides the details of the deal, which is in line with Toby Gerhart‘s new contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That’s probably the first and last time that anything about Donald Brown will be described as Gerhart-esque, yea?

Brown was the steadiest member of the Colts’ backfield in the midst of a lot of change and turnover during the 2013 season that included a season-ending injury to Ahmad Bradshaw and a trade for Trent Richardson. Now he moves onto another crowded running back situation in San Diego, but one where he can realistically compete for carries with the likes of Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and the ever-declining Ronnie Brown.
