Buffalo Bills Free Agency: G Chris Williams signing a four-year, $13.5 million deal

The Buffalo Bills have added some quality help along the offensive line adding St. Louis Rams guard Chris Williams. He signed a four-year deal worth $13.5 million including $5.5 million guaranteed.

For the Rams it is the second offensive lineman to skip town, Roger Saffold signed with the Oakland Raiders shortly after the free agency window opened.

It has become a need for the Rams to address now.

Hopefully this guy is a upgrade over last years crop at LG. Now we need to sign a CB, LB, WR or TE, people are getting mad Because the bills aren’t spending money like crazy. Well if you look at the last 10 years the winners in free agency hardly ever win on the field. Sign starting caliber depth players and draft studs!!

Oh great….with Shelley Smith garnering interest from New York it’s possible the Rams will only have 2 O-lineman healthy left , Joe Barksdale (who is just fine as a starting RT if you ask me) and Scott Wells (who needs to go) with Jake Long on IR (not only do i think he won’t be ready for Game #1 of the season , i think he needs to go too….i thought he was a bad signing LAST year…i have NO CONFIDENCE in him , at all) the Rams will have to not only have to replace their starting LT but the ENTIRE interior line as well. This was a definite area of need ( the o-line i mean) BEFORE they lost Saffold (their BEST o-lineman IMO) and Williams AND Smith (it looks like) AND Harvey Dahl (good riddance) and its not like they’ve been active in FA (not ONE signing)….SO , what are they gonna do? DRAFT a whole new offensive line….oh yeah , that’s the way to take the next step in competing in the NFC West….NOT! (OH i forgot….they have Tim Barnes ( a barely serviceable Center , and Barret Jones , who is a completely unknown quantity) Talk about a disappointing turn of events!

I think he WILL BE an upgrade, Jack …. this guy was a former 1st round pick, but floundered in Chicago – the team that drafted him. Word is that he didn’t get proper coaching there; well, we have a HC in Buffalo that used to be an OL guy, and has coached them himself in the past. I think that was a large part of the decision to sign him – he is a HUGE man, with talent – and we spent less to hopefully develop this guy, than going for the top OL guard/tackle in FA. So, I call it a “qualified” win for the team – assuming he develops as he should. And, we can always still draft one or two OL this year, and not break the bank; so, I’d say good for Buffalo!
