Raiders Rumors: Darren McFadden turned down bigger contract to re-sign with Oakland

Many Raiders fans are waking up this morning hoping that the news they heard yesterday about Oakland choosing Darren McFadden over Rashad Jennings was all just a bad dream. McFadden’s one-year return to the Raiders is a reality though and we’re starting to learn more and more about the whole situation.

According to Jerry McDonald from the Contra Costa Times, McFadden actually had bigger contract offers on the table but rejected them in favor of returning to the Raiders for another season.

“We did have real interest from four or five other teams — one offered more money,” said Ian Greengross, McFadden’s agent. “Darren wanted to stay a Raider. He felt like he still had something to prove in silver and black.”

It’s unclear who the team that offered him more money was, as it could have possibly been the Cincinnati Bengals. Either way, McFadden is on his way back to Oakland and while fans may be rolling their eyes over the move, it’s clear that the running back had no intentions of leaving.

honestly WTF were either of these sides thinking, who wants to prove anything in Oakland?

  • Josh Boone

I didn’t want him back but it appears he’s far more loyal to the silver and black then either Veldheer or Houston if he turned down more money.

True that… Now that we picked up Sheets, still have Murray, and hopefully pick up another back, I’m pretty sure our backfield will be pretty good. I just hope McFadden can finally prove us wrong and bring us another 1000 yard season. Been waiting for him to breakout again, so let’s see if he can actually stay health. I do like the loyalty, as opposed to Veldheer, Houston and Jennings doing their vanishing acts and heading to other teams. I understand these guys want to be paid, but I’d pick loyalty anyday. At least we know dude wants to stay, even when offered more money.

Im sure the amount also wasnt worth relocating for either but id agree i think its good hes got literally nothin but incentives

I’m glad he’s back. He’s always seemed like a hard worker and a good, well liked teammate. Yeah, he’s never played a full season, but I think he realized that and hence the incentive laden contract. It definitely doesn’t hurt anything keeping him and if he’s used in tandem with Murray and possibly another back, then it will hopefully help him stay healthy.

I’ve always liked McFadden, and although it took until this year for me to say that it is probably time for the Raiders to part ways with him after reading this I’m actually happy he’s still here, something tells me McFadden wants to prove to everyone that he is capable of being the RB he was when Hue was running the offence, with the OLine being upgraded here’s hoping that McFadden has a career year.

I’m gonna stop hatin on McFadden, knew he hadn’t did jack n wanted to come back n prove us wrong, much respect to him!!

When healthy, McFadden is a beast, and even has a great arm. Key is, when healthy. I wish him health, and would love to see him in all 16 games. He’d be a top 3 RB, if he can stay healthy.
