NFL Free Agency 2014: New York Jets sign Brandon Pettigrew

After signing Eric Decker to a massiv contract and after hearing that the team has serious interest in drafting Marqise Lee, the New York Jets are continuing their push to get better offensively and have signed former Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

Jets beat writer Manish Mehta reports that a deal is in place and should be signed by Pettigrew before the day is through.

Pettigrew looked like he might be back on the Lions roster in 2014 but his price seemed a bit too steep for the Lions’ taste. he also wasn’t the weapon Detroit hoped he’d become, but the Jets believe they can utilize him in the correct manner.

Either way, the Jets are clearly trying to get better offensively and by adding Decker and Pettigrew, and with the looming possibility of adding the USC Trojans standout Marqise Lee, New York might take a giant leap forward in 2014.

I don’t like this move. Pettigrew has never been a big producer. Even though Calvin Johnson was drawing double and triple teams, Pettigrew couldn’t become a 2nd option. How will he fare any better in New York? Hope they didn’t throw a lot of guaranteed money at him.

Cant find a single news story confirming this

Well, he re-signed with Detroit, so what is going on with this article???

Poor signing in my book. Pettigrew is mediocre at best. The Jets needed a top level TE in the passing game. While Pettigrew is a well rounded TE, Geno Smith needed a more exciting option at tight end. A combo of Cumberland and Pettigrew isn’t going to concern too many defenses. Sorry Idzik, the price might have been right…but you blew it on this one. Hopefully its only rumor!
