On Thursday morning, the Carolina Panthers made the much expected move of releasing veteran wide receiver Steve Smith. What’s also pretty obvious is that he won’t be on the market very long, and according to Adam Schefter, the Baltimore Ravens have already emerged as the favorite to bring in one of the best receivers in the game.

Traditionally, the Ravens organization has worked well with veteran players, and Smith would be a more than welcome addition to an offense that struggled mightily at times in 2013.

While Smith would have preferred to finish his career as a Panther, he would still be joining a team that is only two years away from winning a Super Bowl, and with the franchise bringing back Jacoby Jones on Wednesday, Smith wouldn’t have as much pressure on him as there was in Carolina.

Smith is still chasing that elusive Super Bowl ring, and a move to Baltimore might get him to that destination eventually.
