Once the news broke on Thursday that the Carolina Panthers had released long-time wide receiver–and fan-favorite–Steve Smith, immediately reports began to surface that the Baltimore Ravens were the front runners to land his services. And Smith will indeed take a visit to meet with the Ravens, but according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, that won’t be the only trip he’ll be taking to find a new home.

As of this point, the Ravens have been the only definitive name thrown out there as a potential landing spot, but in the anything-can-happen free agent world, there have to be a few other teams out there that are going to give bringing Smith in a second glance and possibly change their minds.

One team, in particular, that comes to mind is the New England Patriots. Smith wants to play for a winner, and we all know how much Bill Belichick and the Pats love to bring in the veterans that still have a little bit of gas left in the tank.
