As of right now, reports are that the Baltimore Ravens are interested in beefing up their receiving corps by possibly adding veteran wide receiver, Steve Smith. However, in the chance that doesn’t happen, Adam Schefter is reporting that the team may have quite the back up plan ready as they have some interest in another recently-released wideout, former New England Patriots slot man, Julian Edelman.

While it’s unlikely that the team will land both to use in the passing game in 2014, it’s certainly plausible that one of these men will be in purple and black come September.

The addition of Edelman could give Joe Flacco a nice outlet option that he desperately needs. With the questions at running back, there aren’t many of those outlets at his disposal in case of emergency. Edelman would fit that bill to near perfection–and so would Smith, for that matter.

But, if that is the case, that if they can’t land Smith then Edelman becomes the main target, that’s not the worst back up plan in the world.
