The Baltimore Ravens appear to be ver interested in someone the Carolina Panthers quite literally threw to the curb in bizarre fashion. After being the face of the franchise for over a decade, Steve Smith was castaway by the Panthers and looks like he may be landing in Baltimore.

While no deal has officially been signed, Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson notes that things are ‘going well’ so far during the visit.

The projected landing spot for Smith has been Baltimore, even dating back to before she was officially released. Carolina was unable to trade their star receiver — and their only receiver — this week and decided to cut him loose.

Some believe that the New England Patriots or Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be in play for Smith, but the Ravens are getting first dibs on Smith and he’s unlikely to leave Baltimore without a new contract. The most interesting part about Smith signing in Baltimore is that the Ravens and Panthers are slated to play in 2014, which  means the networks have got to be bidding over the rights to that one.
