The NBA playoffs aren’t until next month but already teams are falling out of contention. The usual suspects like the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings are already out of it, but one team that historically makes the postseason not only will be absent but have been crossed of the playoff guest list more than a month early.

With their most recent loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

Per the Los Angeles Times:

"The Lakers (22-44) were officially eliminated from playoff contention after experiencing another brutal night on defense. Who knew their victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday would become the miracle of the NBA season?"

This is the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Lakers will be missing the postseason and it’s just the fifth time in the franchise’s 66 year history that they will no be in the playoffs. To say the Lakers are a staple in the postseason is to understate their presence there, but they’ll be conspicuously absent this year and that may start an unfortunate trend in a city that knows nothing but getting its way and winning.
