NFL Free Agency Rumors: Kansas City Chiefs targeting Devin Hester, Jason Avant

The Kansas City Chiefs thought they had a deal with Emmanuel Sanders — the only problem with that was Sanders didn’t have the same idea. Sanders has taken the agreeing to terms versus actually signing with a team to it’s most literal extent and that has the Chiefs reeling.

After getting burned by a guy who agreed to sign with them but never actually signed with them, the Chiefs are back in the market for a wide receiver. According to ESPN.com, the Chiefs are looking at Devin Hester and Jason Avant to fill their need.

Per ESPN.com:

The Chiefs have indicated some interest in former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant. They have also explored signing former Chicago Bear Devin Hester, though it’s unclear whether he’s more than a kick return specialist at this point of his career.

The Chiefs aren’t a lock to land either one, but there’s a pressing need for a major threat of some sort to fill the loss of Dexter McCluster and the near-miss on Sanders. The draft may be an option, but adding a free agent veteran may end up being the best route.

I could see Avant as a good fit for us. Very WC receiver right in AS wheelhouse. Get’s open in the short to mid game and has good hands. I’ll pass on Hester, when the name recognition is bigger than realistically projected production it’s a recipe for a bad signing. Hope Denver’s players are as good to them as Moeaki was to us.

Avant is, also, a very good special teams player and a down field blocker, as well. He is a leader on and off the field and a very good rotation wide out.

As for Hester, his wide out skills may have waned. In Chicago, Lovie dropped him to a 4th receiver status.

Sanders was definitely a disappointment but it is done now and the Chiefs have to move on. Avant is not as talented as Sanders but would be a good addition, although, he is no speed demon he is dependable and would be a solid WR for the Chiefs.

I’d take Avant on a two year 2 mill deal he knows how to get himself open and philly didn’t want to let him go he was the locker room leader and was a victim of age and cap cuts let him teach AJ, DA, and Bowe as well how to actually use their talents while giving decent production as a #3 WR

I agree hester gives us returner and slot doesn’t have to be number 1 receiver and he gets t be back with coach to make the sparks kindle again until blazingkk

Jason has lost a step but I’ll bet Andy picks him up.
