When the New England Patriots signed Brandon Browner this weekend, there was some belief they did so with the intention of moving him to safety.

Browner says that is not the case though and he will be playing cornerback with the Patriots.

"Asked Browner about possibility of playing safety–said they haven’t talked to him about playing safety. Here to play corner."

Browner isn’t much of a safety anyway, though the idea was likely raised partly due to Browner’s impressive size and the fact that the Patriots signed Darrelle Revis. However, a lack of foot speed and a poor sense of agility wouldn’t make Browner much of an asset at safety and he’s best served (as are the Patriots) by keeping him at corner.

Of course, now with Revis, Browner will be able to match up against secondary wide receivers as Kyle Arrington will likely take the slot.

All in all, that’s likely the best case scenario for all parties involved as Browner – talented as he is – isn’t somebody you want covering top flight wide receivers.
