With everything that has happened this past week in free agency, you can’t help but know that Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton cannot be happy with the team’s moves–or lack thereof in this case. They let all of his receiving threats go and have done little to replace them, and now some more unsettling news is on the way. According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Newton is scheduled to undergo ankle surgery in Charlotte on Wednesday.

Newton didn’t miss any time during the 2013 season in which he played an integral part in taking the team to the playoffs, however the ankle has given him some issues in the past. The procedure itself is more of a precautionary measure, in a way, to help resolve those lingering issues as the surgeon is just going to tighten up the ligaments a bit.
Team doctor and renowned foot and ankle specialist Robert Anderson will perform the surgery. I'm told it is to "tighten up the ligaments."

I’m sure the team hopes that this is a speedy process, from beginning to recovery, because they need Newton and his talents now more than ever.
