Late Friday afternoon, news came through the wire that the New York Jets and QB Mark Sanchez had parted ways, and now, not long after that, the team has announced that they will sign Michael Vick, as has been expected all along.

It’s actually not surprising that the move was made this fast. As soon as the announcement of Sanchez’s release came to light, it was only a matter of time before the Vick signing would take place.

Going in now, Vick should be the favorite to be the starter in New York under Rex Ryan and company. Even though he ran the show last season with Sanchez’s injury, you could tell that Geno Smith still needs some polishing, and the team still wasn’t that far from success. Inserting the veteran Vick into the fold could get them over the hump in 2014.

Vick played sparingly for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 before he was injured and then subsequently replaced by Nick Foles.
