Before Jared Allen signed with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday, he was rumored to be signing with the Seattle Seahawks instead. Both Adam Schefter and Ed Werder from ESPN reported a deal was all but done, however other reports stated that a few mystery teams were in the mix as well.

As it turns out, one of those mystery teams were the Chicago Bears and many believe that the Dallas Cowboys were in the mix too. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets were also interested in Allen and were keeping an eye on his situation.

It’s unclear how serious the Jets were about signing Allen, but their interest is at least notable. We hadn’t heard New York linked to Allen pretty much at all throughout his journey into free agency but adding him could have made sense.  Rex Ryan loves his veteran defensive players, but the Bears were ultimately the better fit.
