The Baltimore Ravens said earlier this month that under no circumstances would running back Ray Rice not be on their 2014 roster. The judicial system has a scenario the Ravens weren’t thinking about and it’s one that could see Rice behind bars for three to five years.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens running back was indicted on Thursday on e one count of aggravated assault stemming from an Atlantic City incident in which he was seen dragging his unconscious fiancee out of an elevator.

Schefter reports that the charge carries a three to five year prison sentence.

This is serious business that shouldn’t be taken lightly by anyone in Baltimore. It’s almost as if the Ravens have been pretending nothing happened but the incident is impossible to ignore with the heavy weight sentence now attached to it.

It’s very likely that Rice never sees prison, but the fact that yet another active and massively well known NFL player is facing hardcore prison time is something the league will not take lightly.
